Artist's Comments

Hey everyone.

After a few attempts, I've finally gotten Chase to look the way he's supposed to. Before he either looked too young, or... Hawaiin? I dunno.

But in any case, I did a few things different this time around. I took :iconbendouglasuk:'s advice and started playing around with different layer blending styles. And finally painted someone from the Damage Control crew in an indoor setting (everyone thus far has been in the woods)

And I did stubble! It's all about little victories :boogie:

Just for funsies, here's the original sketch [link]

All comments and crits are welcome.

I don't have a girlfriend... I just know someone who would get REALLY mad if they heard me say that.

this is great. you have such good attention to detail. people are so hard to draw but you have captured him just right :)

You just keep on impressing mate. Excellent work on...well...everything. It's got all the things I love in pics - a good composition with elements of character development and story along with little details down to his PC username. Grade A on all fronts :D One little crit I'll point out is the width of his nose towards the top of his face, think it should be narrower as the general shape of a nose is that of a triangle. Asides from that you seem to be using the layer modes to great effect :) Oh and stubble = win :D

Thank you, i'm glad that you like it. I was going through painting Chase the entire time and panicking on what to do for a BG, as I was using blue lighting the whole time, and his room is dark red.

But when Amber mentioned a pc screen, it all fell together =P

I went ahead and edited his nose, does it look better this way?

I realize now that I've been drawing the triangle upside down the WHOLE time >_< Thanks for pointing that out =)

And ty for :+fav:ing it

Gotta be honest, I think this is your best work. It really DOES have all the right things to make up a good image. I especially love the lighting effects. If that's a development of the layer effects then I hope you continue to use those ;)

*Gropes shamelessy* I mean, er, um... Nice work...

No, no, no. Actually I mean in the words of Lena who is actually me pretending to be Lena thinking: I'll take two. Whatever you're selling, I want it. *smacks lips* Yes, yes indeed.

Good job dear! You finally got the Chase to sit still long enough to translate onto the puter screen. Quite a feat. I particularily love his eyes as they really pop and the stubble. Also, you learned how to draw strong faces which really helped you capture this. Background is awesome, right down to the bass cliff detail on his screen (which is described in the novel). Zipper track looks good. Just missing the zip to use. Nice work dud, nice work.

Shh! Don't bother speaking... I'm just going to edit your dialogue out later.

nice stuff. Really you get better each picture you paint. Im impressed :) I'm not feeling well today so only small comment from me. Mini niggle is the necklace which looks llike its caught on something in his hoody and being pulled taut. If its got a pendant or something then thats good but still need to drape the chain a bit more so it follows the flow of his body rather than it being a straight V.

Really nice work Brian, keep em coming

yeah the nose is muuuuch better now matey. Noses are bloody hard to draw and paint as they have normally don't have any sharp edges and so you have to rely on the shadows they cast and the bright specular light they recieve to define the shape. The best way to understand the blob in the middle of our faces is to grab a mirror, a lightsource, and move the light around while looking in the mirror, noting where sshadows fall around the nostrils and on the opposite side of our faces. Keep up the awesome work dude, it's fantastic to see your artistic development :D
